Starting a Comparison

 

Comparing two databases: to start a comparison between two databases click on the "Compare Databases" icon on the toolbar () or the "Compare Databases" item under the "Compare" menu. The Compare SQL Server Databases dialog window that appears allows you to chose the server(s) where the databases you wish to compare reside as well as the databases themselves. If the databases you wish to compare are not in the workspace already you can add them from this window.

Comparing select tables: if you wish to compare the content of just some of the tables in the database or/and you need to map tables that may have different names then click on the "Compare Tables" icon on the toolbar () or the "Compare Tables" item under the "Compare" menu. The Compare Tables dialog window that appears allows you to map the tables you wish to compare one by one. After selecting the databases where the tables to be mapped/compared reside, click on the "Refresh" button right above the "All Tables" section - xSQL Data Compare will populate the section with the complete list of tables for each of the selected databases. To map the tables, click on a table on the left, click on the corresponding table on the right and then click the "Add to selection" button (">>") to add the mapped pair of tables to the list of tables to be compared.
